SLP Public Schools Foundation Gives Teachers Resources to Make the Grade:  St. Louis Park Public Schools Foundation is making a difference. By Sally Donlin

Giving teachers an extra financial boost to help provide the best educational opportunities for their students is the goal of the St. Louis Park Public Schools Foundation. Each year, SLPPSF raises funds at events like “Park After Dark” and their All-School Reunions to generate grant money, which is made available to teachers. Approximately $35,000 to $45,000 is available for teachers seeking to enhance four main curriculum areas: reading, math, science and the arts. (Last year, $41,000 was awarded.) SLPSF board members represent the community; many are alumni of St. Louis Park schools or have children enrolled there.

With more than 4,200 students in the district, it is safe to say that nearly every student, including those in early childhood programs, have benefited from the grant program. The success of the foundation’s mission is evident: six St. Louis Park public schools have been recognized at Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
