THE SORENSEN FAMILY

The following is an incomplete list of the many Sorensen families in St. Louis Park.  There is no guarantee that the Sorensens listed below are all related to each other.  Please contact us for corrections and additions. 

NELS SORENSEN

Nels Sorensen was born in Denmark in 1862 and came to the US in 1883.  He and his wife Serna (Serina), born in 1869, had children Rosa (1894), Robert (1897), and Helen.  In 1900-10 he was a weigher at a grain elevator.  Nels and Serina lived in one of three company houses at the southeast corner of Highways 7 and 100, where Nordic Ware is now. The other two houses were occupied by Robert and Mae, and Jack and Mary Johnson.  

ROBERT SORENSEN

Robert Sorensen was born on March 23, 1897 in St. Louis Park. He worked for International Milling for 21 years. He joined the St. Louis Park police force in 1945. He and wife Mae had a daughter, Mrs. Cleo Agness, and a son Clyde. Mae died in July 1962. Robert died in January 1963 at the age of 65. 

CLYDE SORENSEN

Clyde Sorensen served as St. Louis Park Police Chief from 1959 to 1974.  The photo at right is from 1958.

Clyde had a twin sister Cleo, and an Uncle Jack who was the same age. They graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1938. He grew up on Colorado Ave. by Beeks Pizza. From about 1958 he lived at 4360 Vernon Avenue, a house built in 1908. Rumor was it was the first street in the city plowed after a snowstorm. Clyde was a member of the Lion's Club, and, of course, he was the St. Louis Park Police Chief from 1959 to 1974.
 

Clyde’s first wife Georgia was born on September 7, 1920. She worked at Control Data for 10 years, then Honeywell, then asked back to CD. The couple had three daughters: Judy, Pam, and Carol. They divorced in 1975. Clyde had two more wives before he died on November 21, 1988. Georgia died on April 12, 2004.

CARL AND ELLA SORENSEN

Ella Nilsen was born in Denmark and came to St. Louis Park in 1892. She married Carl M. Sorensen in December 1897.  The 1910 Census shows them living in St. Louis Park with children Chester, Helena, and Milo.  Carl was a shoe trimmer at North Star Shoes.  In 1930-51 she lived at 3328 Zarthan (built in 1912).  In 1930 she worked as a laundress to support sons Caroll E. and Paul N. and daughter Marion C.

CHESTER SORENSEN

Chester C. Sorensen was born on/came to St. Louis Park on September 18, 1898. In 1930-51 he lived at 3148 Dakota (built in 1927).  Chester's wife was Hazel, and their children were Phyllis and Clayton.

MAX SORENSEN

Max P. Sorensen was born in Denmark and came to the U.S. in 1888.  He was a blacksmith according to the 1910 Census.  His wife Bertha came to the U.S. in 1892.  Their children were Lillian and Albert.

FRED SORENSEN

Fred Sorensen was born in March 1871 in Denmark and came to the US in 1892.  In 1900 he lived in St. Louis Park and worked at a dairy.  His wife Christina was born in 1870 and came to the US in 1893.  Their children were Katie and Mabel.
