HIGHWAY 18/169

In the 1930s, there were few roads to get around on.  One of them was Mendelssohn Road, that went from Superior/Wayzata Blvd. north towards Medicine Lake.

A short while later, the road was extended south to Minnetonka Blvd. and named Highway 18.

Another name for the road was Jordan.

A proposed interchange of Highways 7 and 18 was presented by Hennepin County Highway Engineer L.P. Pederson on August 22, 1963. The City Council approved the plan in November.

In July 1963, Mr. Speelman of the Hennepin County Highway Department presented final plans for Highway 18 to the City Council.  The plan was approved on August 5. 

In 1963, the SLP City Council wanted Minnetonka to share the cost of the traffic light at Minnetonka Blvd. and Highway 18.

In 1965, Hennepin County approached the City Council about a proposed Highway 18 between Highway 12 and 55. 

Final plans were presented to the City Council for improvement of County State Aid Road 18,  County State Aid Highway 5, and State Highway 7. 

The extension of Highway 18 from Minnetonka Blvd. to 36th Street was approved by the City Council in 1968.
