FIRST UKRAINIAN EVANGELICAL BAPTIST CHURCH

The First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church makes it home in the former Park Baptist Church, located on Highway 100 across from Brookside School. The address of the building is variously listed as 4097 Vernon Ave. and 5450 W. 41st St.

The church came to the Park from Monroe Street in Minneapolis in November 1996, led by its pastor, Rev. Urii Maruschak. Rev. Maruschak is a native of China and speaks five languages, including Chinese, Ukrainian, Russian, and English. Services are conducted in Ukrainian. The approximately 115 members are about 90 percent Ukrainian and 10 percent Russian, with some Moldavian members as well. About 50 percent of the members are senior citizens, but it is an active congregation for its size. There is no paid office staff, but messages can be left on 952-432-3939.
