MAYOR JAMES BROWN

Records show that there were two men named James Brown who served as Mayor.  Or perhaps it was the same man, identified by a wrong initial.

We know that James H. Brown served as the Mayor of St. Louis Park from April until September 2, 1920.  He was born in June 1871.  The 1900 census shows that he was living in Salisbury, Missouri at the time with his wife Lutie A. Brown and daughter Edna Brown, age 7.  He worked as a general contractor.  The 1910 census shows him living in Minneapolis.  His occupation seems to read that he was a contractor at a cemetery.  The 1920 census has him living in St. Louis Park but his occupation in indecipherable (census records were handwritten).  He retired in 1924.  In 1930 he was still in St. Louis Park.  Brown died on January 19, 1956 at the age of 85.

A James M. Brown is identified as Park Mayor in 1934.  We have pictures of neither, so we will have to study this further.
