BLANCHE BOYCE

Blanche Boyce was a much loved teacher at Brookside School. She was born on September 19, 1893 in Zumbro Falls and attended the Mankato State Teachers’ College. She taught in rural schools at first, and came to St. Louis Park in 1926. She taught 4th and 5th grades for 27 years at Brookside School.

Miss Boyce died on January 5, 1953, from complications of a fall at the school, taking down a Christmas tree on December 18. She was 69.

In her memory, the Brookside PTA created the Blanche Boyce Memorial Book Fund and renamed the Brookside library the Blanche Boyce Memorial Library.

Another tribute was paid by the St. Louis Park Federation of Teachers Local 845:  “Blanche Boyce gave most of the years of her life to her chosen profession.  The warmth of her personality, her fine character, her love for democracy, justice and fair play will live on through the lives of those she taught as well as through the lives of all those whom she befriended.”
