About 200 people gathered at the new Lilac Park on July 13,
2009 for the dedication of the park and the ribbon cutting
of the newly-restored beehive fireplace. Mayor Jeff
Jacobs made some remarks, thanking everyone who had worked
together to make the move and the restoration possible.
David Dahlquist of Nordic Ware presented the Mayor with a
new bundt pan, created for the occasion, in the shape of a
beehive - complete with bees! The Mayor and Bob Jorvig
from the St. Louis Park Historical Society cut the ribbon,
officially welcoming the beehive to its new home.
The City served hot dogs, chips, water, and ice cream.
Families spontaneously sat around the restored council ring,
which was made for that purpose and probably hadn't been
used since the 1960s.
Also new was a parking lot Nordic Ware will share with
people visiting the park, and new access to the Nordic Ware
tower, where there is a plaque noting its place on the
National Register of Historic Places. Nordic Ware has
played a tremendous role, starting with their maintenance of
the park, funding, participation on the restoration
committee, and more.
Come and enjoy the new park! Access is the service
road at Highway 7 and Beltline Blvd. Better yet, bike
to the site using the new trail connector.
